...and the Devs can FINALLY talk about it!!!
Published on November 4, 2008 By ScottTykoski In Elemental Dev Journals

It's been a long time coming, but FINALLY, Elemental (our Turn-Based Fantasy game) has been announced to the public!  Huzzah!

You can expect a lot of posting to be done over then next 16 months, so let me introduce you to the team...

- Frogboy/Draginol (Brad Wardell): CEO, Game Designer, AI Programmer  -
For those that don't know, Frogboy is the head of Stardock, barking orders and coding things up. Needless to say, he'll be around.

- Boogiebac (Scott Tykoski/Me): Executive Producer -
With Brad being continuously sucked into CEO tasks, this will be the first NEW project I get to head-up from conception. Will Scott see Elemental to success, or will the weight of the project crush the upstart Producer's soul, sending him into a self-destructive depression spiral?  Stay tuned to find out!!!

- CariElf (Cari Begle): Lead Developer -
Cari has a fan club over on the galCiv2 site. I'm very jealous and, as such, will keep her introduction to a minimum.

This is Cari. She codes. The end.

- Codecritter (Jesse Brindle): Lead Engine Programmer -
Jesse has been our lead engine architect since he started coding up the battle engine for GC2:Dreadlords. He'll be around to show you the innermost workings of the Elemental engine (and if you ask nicely, perhaps he'll upload his latest Banjo jam-session).

- Mormegil (Paul Boyer): Art Director -
Leading up the art side of the game's team, Paul will be chiming in on all things 'art'. With the shear amount of artwork to be made for Elemental, it's safe to say that he'll be quite active on the forums.

- Other Team Members -
Yes, for this project we officially have a team in the double digits!  On the art side we have Akil, Dan, Leo, Drew, and Auri. Over in the code pit there's Trent, Ross, and Charles. And once I hunt down their screen-names I can update this list

Enjoy the website, and we look forward to getting the game into your hands ASAP!

Congrats on the producer role.  Good luck to you and the rest of the team.  it looks like it'll be a fun ride.

Trent

His is mittens!

Anyway, I'm glad to finally see what you guys have been working on. I haven't had the opportunity to beta test Gal Civ 2 or its expansions, so this will be my first time with your dev team (and the third major SD-run beta test, wee!).

I already preordered

Female + game coder = gamer geek following.  Sorry Boogie, but I don't see how you'll be able to beat that, except for free copies of E:WoM

Woohoo!!! Finally!

Good luck, guys! Can't wait!

It's OK, no one ever posts on that thread anymore.

That was everything I needed to know about it.

Oh, and to prove my fanboy credentials, I've also allready preordered.

Will Scott see Elemental to success[...]

He'd better... I bet money on your success (=pre-order).

Great! Looking forward to it.

Here's hoping for a Tectonics map-script for Elemental.

Sorry for the double posts but I couldn't get two quotes in one post to work.

I gotta say - I love this business model.  You pre-pay for the privilege of beta testing, thus ensuring at least some cashflow for the developer (and maybe publisher, if that's the distribution model).  In return, you get some say in how the game turns out, plus the geeky benefit of playing a game before-hand.  The lack of NDAs is nice, too.  Contrast this with the usual industry approach of closed betas with the winners determined by lottery.  The quality of beta feedback in the latter must be a real crapshoot.  The quality of beta feedback with Stardock's system is probably fairly decent: no one wants to have doled out $50 for a game not to turn out good (even though economically it's a sunk cost).  It's almost an open-source development model, at least as far as testing is concerned...

It is good. It is not probably good. Combine people who want the game enough to put their money where their mouth is and stardock fanboys, and the feedback is great.

This looks awesome. Thank you Stardock for resurrecting MOM.

I wish the dev team the best of success in all their endeavors with this project. I'm sure I can speak for many of us within the collective community, when I state that we expect great things to materialize for this title given its pedigree and the commitment to cause fostered by SD.

Poor Cari. Maybe we'll consider starting you a new one - but only if Elemental turns out to be good!
