- Beta Day is FINALLY Here! -
Published on September 26, 2008 By ScottTykoski In GalCiv Journals
Currently available on Impulse is Beta1 of GCII version 2.0 (we're shooting for only one major Beta, but there may be more).

I'll keep exposition to a minimum, so here's that list of remaining features you'll be receiving...

New Negotiation Options
Tech Brokering is a game setup option that restricts the trading of technologies to only those you've personally researched. This keeps tech-trade-spam to a minimum and gives some extra muscle to races more technologically inclined.

Trading of fleets has also been added, so now you can gather up all the ships you want to unload and send them off with ease.

All Campaigns Playable
It took some tweaking, but we finally got the Dreadlord and Dark Avatar campaigns working directly in Twilight of the Arnor. (I don't believe this made it in for today's build.)

Arnorian Ship Style
With the final build of 2.0 you'll have full access to the ship style of the Arnorians.

Manual
Yes, the manual has been update with all the 2.0 features.     Sorry for the wait.

Feedback
We're now at the stage where the players get to step in and beat up our creation   Take 2.0 for a couple of laps, let us know how it runs, and give us your feedback. Enjoy!

** Concerning the Download: If you're having issues downloading the Beta, make sure... **
1. Pre-Release versions are Selected
2. You press F5 to Check for New Updates
3. If you don't see it, restart Impulse
4. Still don't see it? Restart your computer.
5. Still not there?! Toggle 'Enable Fast-Start' and reload.
6. OMG...Still?!?! Uninstall TA (ONLY TA), reinstall it, and just chalk it up as a 'fun' part of the beta experience

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback (both for 2.0 and Impulse).

Logic: I've made the team aware of the installation bug...don't know why it would install to the root.  Anyone else get this?

Seems to be fine for me, Boogie.  Can we make some way to steal techs without attacking an improvement?

Even if I had to "burn" a spy, but if I do I need to be able to pick a tech, not have one pulled out of a hat.  If I get laser I for a spy burn when I'm researching Beyond Mortality, items will be thrown.

@BoogieBac

I haven't had the problem LogicSequence is having, but I have different one (which might be related).

When I have the "Prompt for install directory" checked (see Preference -> Folders), Impulse freezes when I try to install Sins fresh (uninstall it completely, then try to download and install). It seems unable to ask me where to install. However, when its not checked, it installs normally to whatever folder it should install to (a setting that I changed so it installs to another hard drive).

Demigod doesn't seem to have this problem... It provides me a window to navigate folders and stuff (haven't installed it using this... yet).

Let me get back to you on this once I had some time to do a more in depth check. I have a few things I need to get done today.

The page numbers look a bit off in the manual.

Oh, yeah... btw, THAT precious manual is also an excellent reference. I specifically like the pages which gives a thorough compare of races 'buildings'.

Really-really great stuff to consult (for newest players!). I'm officially jealous of their currently available pdf.

When, i had to guess my way to obtain this sort of informations.

Bof, i DO have it now as everyone else.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback (both for 2.0 and Impulse).

Hey... not so fast.

I still want all of my planet surface tiles to be what the name implies and matching with the query images shown.

on Sep 30, 2008

I think in my next game, if I'm doing well enough to allow it, I may give a few planets to the Snathi and set them on some other minor for entertainment purposes.

You really should try the 'Majoring the Minors' concept of X-Worlds (as of now, for DA only... but i will be working on the TA conversion soon after CoSH v05-B is uploaded) -- for another alternative entertaining 'context'. Be warned however that these Minors (even when Majored with the provided extra raceconfig.xmls) have a tricky black coloring schema making them harder to detect. Bye-Bye sensors & fog issues.

1. Does pasive spies steal techs?

Not that i'm aware of.

2. The AI doesn't seem to compete well for extreme planet types....

Well, The Drengin DID beat me to the only Toxic world (PQ11, i wasn't really consciously after it, but they still were faster than everyone else!) in the entire medium map with the rare extremes option in one of the test games i took.

on Sep 30, 2008

The AIs in general seem to be smarter - but I have noticed they seem to look at Extreme Colonization later than they used to.  Good in my book, they tend to go for it roughly around when I do instead of sitting back with laser I and going "yup, that's good enough" and spending the next year getting the advanced colonization techs.

I have show pre-release versions checked on impulse and I've checked both usa-1 usa-2 servers but 2.0 beta isn't showing up? What am I doing wrong?

on Sep 30, 2008

It's flagged as 1.99RC or somesuch.  It's a beta, not the official 2.0.

on Sep 30, 2008

Is the new TA manual available somewhere to us folks that are not quite ready for Impulse?

Yea it was really strange.  I posted earlier that Impulse said all of my GC2 installs were not installed correctly, i assumed this was because i edit files all the time.  But when i started it up the other day, the 2.0 beta update was available so i just hut update on twilight.  It downloaded and installed to the Galciv2 root folder like i said, and i still have 1.96 in the twilight folder.  I'm going to assume all of my GC2 DL files are frakked now because of this.    Dunno why it installed there, but it's an odd bug, need any files for this one?

I like the new starbase auto build feature but is it possible to get this from the governors list in the F6 screen please

Tech brokering option is great.. Thanks

PS Saving option on the governors list for the planets for future use in the next game too please

1.99rc isn't showing up for me on impulse either?

on Oct 01, 2008

I don't have access to a computer capable of running GC2 at the moment, so I can't test it. There was something I suggested for another update that I didn't see make it in, and if its not in v2.0 I really hope it can be added.

My suggestion was this: You know when you're making a custom race or upgrading a core ship design and you get that box full of text for the description? You have to hold down the delete key for AGES to clear it. Please please please add a small button that clears all text from these windows. The custom race one is the worst offender, as it fills the box with that randomly generated text. Pretty please with sugar on?
