- Beta Day is FINALLY Here! -
Published on September 26, 2008 By ScottTykoski In GalCiv Journals
Currently available on Impulse is Beta1 of GCII version 2.0 (we're shooting for only one major Beta, but there may be more).

I'll keep exposition to a minimum, so here's that list of remaining features you'll be receiving...

New Negotiation Options
Tech Brokering is a game setup option that restricts the trading of technologies to only those you've personally researched. This keeps tech-trade-spam to a minimum and gives some extra muscle to races more technologically inclined.

Trading of fleets has also been added, so now you can gather up all the ships you want to unload and send them off with ease.

All Campaigns Playable
It took some tweaking, but we finally got the Dreadlord and Dark Avatar campaigns working directly in Twilight of the Arnor. (I don't believe this made it in for today's build.)

Arnorian Ship Style
With the final build of 2.0 you'll have full access to the ship style of the Arnorians.

Manual
Yes, the manual has been update with all the 2.0 features.     Sorry for the wait.

Feedback
We're now at the stage where the players get to step in and beat up our creation   Take 2.0 for a couple of laps, let us know how it runs, and give us your feedback. Enjoy!

** Concerning the Download: If you're having issues downloading the Beta, make sure... **
1. Pre-Release versions are Selected
2. You press F5 to Check for New Updates
3. If you don't see it, restart Impulse
4. Still don't see it? Restart your computer.
5. Still not there?! Toggle 'Enable Fast-Start' and reload.
6. OMG...Still?!?! Uninstall TA (ONLY TA), reinstall it, and just chalk it up as a 'fun' part of the beta experience

Edit: Ignore me please.

However, if you're ever looking to update the Impulse UI, then perhaps a way to indicate where the preferance menu is.

I'll second that. It took me quite while to figure out where to click.

I'll third that.  Very annoyingly difficult to find.

I love the option to fill the galaxy with mostly extreme planets.  Makes for a whole new game.  It's just as awesome as I thought it would be when I suggested it last winter

Reinstaling Impulse did the trick for me. I guess it's worth trying before reinstaling TotA.

So I think it should be:

6. Reinstall Impulse

I think that some sort if tech/miniturization adjustment should be available in the ship editor.

The page numbers look a bit off in the manual.

Other than that, no complaints.

You're probably the only company to release a "version 2.0" of an existing game. I like that . I like how the game continues to be worked on long after its release. It's become very stable - many of my other games still crash, sometimes predictably. But they will never be be fixed, because unlike Stardock, the big companies ignore games once they're released .

You pack of champions

Totally! I've been hanging for that option! It's amazing how unique you can make every game now with all the options, sparse immense...crowded medium...drawn out colony rush...every new game has so much potential.

Congrats on reaching your final version of GC2 Stardock. You all rock!

I found a obvious bug: when i start the ship desinger there is still a loading bar at the bottom of the screen.

Where exactly should we be posting bug reports? I have seen a few here but I have been using the in the TOA section.

SC, like impulse, has an option somewhere to enable pre-release updates, which you will have to select.  I'm guessing you simply haven't done that.

Only thing I would ask for is a slider for miniaturization in the new shipyard feature in the main menu.

Would it be possible to add a queue to the ship build window like with the colony build window?  It gets ever so extremely tiring to constantly zoom back into a planet or hunt for planets using the colony list just to change what ship you want it to build.

For example:  If I want to build ShipA, ShipB, ShipD, ShipA, ShipC  I would need to constantly be going back into the starport to select the ship I want next.  With a ship queue I could just queue up my build order and not have to worry about that colony until it's queue has run out.

Combined with that could Autolaunch also launch military ships I know you can right click the icons on the right side of the screen to launch ships but when you are playing large maps and have a huge number of colonies this takes forever, just like having to select the next type of ship you want built by a colony.  It's the reason why so many have stopped playing the large maps.

Alas, I believe you do. I saw something late last week about some problems with the beta on SDC, so it went out only via Impulse. I always have Show pre-release checked in SDC and I just tried again to see if the beta fairies had worked around that problem. I'm pretty sure us Impulse resistors will have to wait until the beta is over.

On a loosely related note: Will the 2.0 final build run a game started in 1.96? I want to start another gigantic or immense map, but maybe not if won't work with 2.0.

Well after verification, Impulse doesn't like any of my GC2 installs, it says they're all not installed correctly.  Boogiebac, any idea why that might be?  Is it searching for all the files to be the exact size listed in GC2.xml files?  Cause i've messed around with pleanty of files before as you know.  Does that mean i need to wipe GC2 and reinstall all of them?

I've tried every possible thing mentioned in this thread about trying to locate the Beta 2.0. I've uninstalled impulse then reinstalled, and uninstalled TOTA. and still nothing.

I'm in australia would that have anything to do with it
