What will Nintendo's Game-Plan Be?
Published on September 13, 2006 By ScottTykoski In Console Games

Over the next few days (and hours, if you’re counting down the Japanese conference), a floodgate of anticipate information regarding the questionably-titled "Wii" system will be revealed.

Ever since the consoles announcement (as codename "Revolution"), rumors and speculation have enveloped the pre-release hype in a way I haven’t seen before in a fanbase.

Crazy fanboys aside, what information do you foresee Nintendo announcing at their media blitz. We know it's going to be priced below $250 and have a release date some time before November 17th (PS3's launch), but how much sooner?

Plus there's talk about one more big surprise that the "Big N" has kept until now. Is this just more smoke from the rumor mill, or could there be one more surprise up Nintendo's sleeve?

My prediction: a $199 price point, a slightly early release date towards the end of October, and perhaps a surprise along the line of "Wii Sports will be packaged with the console"...because, honestly, the game collection looks a bit cheap/cheesy to plop down $50 buck for.

Post your own speculation, discussion, and eventual official news!

I'll go with the $200 price point, with $250 for a bundle with an extra controller and a game or something).

As for their big surprise... my guess is that they're doing a launch with some huge number of consoles initially available. Essentially dwarfing the 360 and PS3 launch which each saw like 400k units shipped at launch. They're going to show up Microsoft and Sony in a big way with this launch.

200-220$ price point and the 250 bundle pack for the nunchuck and 1 standard controller. And probably that sportts game. I just cant wait to get a keg, 3 budys, and play the new smashbrothers till my eyes bleed.

I laughed pretty hard when I saw Solid Snake was going to be a playabale character in the new Smash Brothers game.

Any word on if that going to be a launch title? (Scott crosses his fingers)

I haven't heard, but I have to say....this is the most excited I have been for a console launch in quite a long time (not just one gen....its been YEARS). I hope it lives up to the massive potential that it has for A) New, innovative and different titles that Nintendo has been able to deliver lately and I just hope it is successful.

Every Nintendo console to date has been $200 at release--no reason to change that now, especially since the competition costs so much more. Wii sports definitely seems like a natural bundle-game since it would really serve best as an introduction/practice game for the Wiimote.

*Gets ready to trade in gamecube since the Wii is backwards-compatible with the paddles, games, and memcards...*

i have looked over the mighty seas of the internet and i have not found anything conclusive And ya the cinamatic for Snakes entrance was pretty sweet. But for some reason ever since they first concieved the idea of Warrio i loved it

And is it me or did Melee seem like it had "finishing moves", like the ones from street fighter.

For anyone interested, it sounds like IGN is going to be doing a text feed form the live Japanese Conference (translated, I'm sure).

kryo: Ah yeah, I forgot about the backwards compatability...now who can I pawn my cube off to

theProgram: Idont thing each player had a finishing move, but there were some combos that would knock your health to a dangerous level, making it easier for them to knock you out of the ring.

At that price point, even I might be interested, assuming I can use it with my LCD monitor's VGA input.

prob. not. If there going to do any other type of input other then the standard then its going to be digital since VGA is obsoleet.

Actually, I remember seeing guys at work hook their XBox into their computer monitors....just needed special converter. But no, out of the box I doubt they'll suppot hookups to VGA
on Sep 13, 2006
To do the XBox thing, you need the VGA cable and then speakers that can take component audio inputs.

looks like release date is nov. 19.

Unfortuantly as well it looks like Smash Brothers will not be in the release set.

Some monitors also have different types of input. I am looking for one that would b able to plug the wii directly into.
