Welcome to the Road Less Traveled
Published on March 4, 2010 By ScottTykoski In Elemental Dev Journals

As preorders are processed and new users begin downloading (and...gulp...playing) Elemental, I wanted to extend words of both welcome and warning to our fellow adventurers....

- You are possibly (or definatly, at the time of this post) downloading the 0.291 build from last Friday. You should be on the lookout for v0.295, which we will be announcing one we get one last bug squashed

- These are the last build of the Beta 1 cycle. This meens you'll be playing on the cloth map only, and the major features, while in, are still in a sate of infancy. Beta 2 will bring new content and a maturing of these mechanics.

- These build are prone to crash. We've chipped away at some of the memory leaks, but 100 turns in don't be suprise if your computer is begging for mercy on it's delicate silicone. Autosave is your friend

- You won't have fun. Anything emotions that girgle forth that even resemble enjoyment are either the anticipation of fun or straight up gas. And 9/10 times it'll be the latter.

The game, at this stage, is something most companies would desperatly keep under wraps. What we're hoping is that the player input we get at this point outweighs the lack of fun you'll have to wade through for the next few months.

Enjoy!    Feel free to post any comments, concerns, or questions...Brad, myself, and the rest of the team will be around!

More victims to throw in the fire YA!

Yay I'm in!

Fun or not, I'm excited to see this kind of development where the customers are so activily involved in shaping the game. I wish more developers would do this, and I really hope this works out for you guys.

For anybody new to this, you get an email when you place the pre-order. You get another email (today) when it gets processed and charged. Once you get that email, Elemental should show up after an Impulse restart (and with show pre-release games enabled).

If it doesn't, you can use the serial number in the email to register it.

I've got a slight problem.

My wallet was stolen last week, and I only just got my new card today, so I couldn't change the details (I honestly don't know who to contact, either). Am I going to have to wait until next Beta?

I've been excited about this game since its announcement, but I can wait if need be.

Just got an e-mail that told me the transaction failed.

I can't do the beta.  Every time i get to the first page it tell me that it is unable to update my data files.  I tried everything, and I can't get through, I got through ONCE, and now it refuses to let me through.

So I just played through my first game (I somehow completed 400+ turns).

Victory through conquest, and speed-turning. (Research all the good stuff and ignore the rest of the game, then go hunting. )

There were a couple grins, and a "Ha-ah!" when I won, so I'll be seeing a psychiatrist next week.

Even for a game without serious graphics, I am wholly impressed with the work so far. It ain't quite fun, but it's satisfying.

*Narrator speaks up*

Shortly after typing this ill-fated message, Orvidos' brain exploded through his ears. Finishing a game? Fool.

Tried everything I can think of to get this thing to show up on Impulse.  Got Email about 6 hrs ago. have tried evey option people have posted here but nothing has worked.   When I put my serial number into add registrations it says it was successfully registered.  Yes, I have the show  pre-release thing checked.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled impulse.

[edit]

Okay I got it working, Guess I never tried everything. I had set  Prerelease in the Settings>impluseicontray but the settings were actually not changed, cause I checked preferences in  Impulse and it wasn't checked like I thought it would be.

So this authorization on the credit card will be the final one and be the actual charge? I thought the charge did not go through until teh game ships or do I rember things wrongly from Sins?

Only if you miss the beta boat. You get charged when you get "something" for your money, be it a beta or the final.

Had a similar problem i just re ordered it through the link that the e-mail sent me. in the conformation e-mail should be a serial code, register that and make sure you have show pre release versions checked marked in impulse under preferences and restart... it should show up.

Good Luck

My order was denied (prob by my bank since the money was reservered for to long) , did a new order and got the game instantly

NamaWHAT?!

Sorry, couldn't resist. People watching LOST will know where this comes from.

But on-topic:

As much as I can't wait for the official release, I would never download pre-release Versions and beta-test them.

First-off I don't have the time and secondly I did that with another game, and it pretty much ruined the overall experience of the game when it was finally released.

But that's just me. So don't  mind me.
