Now with Less Memory Leakage, More Reliable Rendering!
Published on September 24, 2009 By ScottTykoski In Elemental Dev Journals

Hey Everyone!

Version 0.23 (aka 'The Beta1 Update') is now available on Impulse.

We highly suggest those with major graphical errors on the main map give this a go. As for the major issues not listed as fixed...

Saved Games: We're currently narrowing down the major issues with loading a saved game. These will be ironed out by next Thursday (Beta 1a).

Crashs on Startup: This build won't do anything for people who can't get into the title screen. We have some leads on how the problem can be resolved, however, and should have this in for 1a as well.

Startup Speed: Brad (Frogboy) has done some major digging into startup times and has some areas that can be dramatically improved (for anyone getting antsy on that splash screen).

We'll keep you posted as things are wrapped up for 1a...in the meentime, enjoy the new build!

The game is significantly more stable. Several more games and no crash Roads work as intended, the bug with mouse is still annoying (it doesn't click where you want it to click), but all-in-all i'm getting some fun

but all-in-all i'm getting some fun

Sorry, fun was specifically verboten in the beta.  You'll have to be kicked out.

Really ? Oh well I meant "all in all i'm getting some fun-ny bugs" ..

After tooling around the screen for about 30 minutes, Screen goes blank and I get dialog box say my display driver is no longer working. Has happened all 3 times I have played.

I have XP SP2

Still can't wait for the next phase

From now, i've played a lot of game... maybe 15 and just have finish two... 1 Win and 1 Lost... For the other games it's always a Crash to Desktop ...

Today I've install the patch 0.23 and "surprise" I click on a spider and... crash to Desktop.... another Ticket number for me

+ Your Prestige will increase your Population Growth

Er... why? Wouldn't a player with the highest prestige already be in the lead?

on Sep 25, 2009

No, because buildings that increase prestige are not the houses which give you the best benefit to population growth.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm in the beta, but haven't bothered to play enough to know what pretige does. Thought it was similar to the "fame" score from MoM.

My game still locks up when i've been playing about 30 min.  Right when I end turn.  Otherwise getting better.  But the popultion bonus is the same for all house types right?

Beta 1a came around rather quickly (assuming its released next week).    If it keeps moving at this rate we'll be at Beta 1e in no time.

Like I pointed out in the schedule thread, they need to average an update every two weeks to release in August 2010. (actually a little faster than two weeks)

Is the update intended to fix the crash where the cloth map appears for half a second and then CTD?

I can get into the title screen and set up a new game, the generating world dialog appears, then I see the faintest flash of a cloth map and then CTD.  So tantalizing . . .      I know that this crash has been reported many times, but I just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be fixed now or not in version 0.23.

Keep up the great work, guys . . . I'm excited that the beta is finally out.  Even just the title screen is better than nothing at all!

I haven't had any issues running the game, but I do get a little bored since my towns always hit level 3 or so and then stop growing, no matter what buildings I've placed. Is it supposed to do that?

on Sep 26, 2009

Oh, I will point out that building things to a city never seem to work right. They always lose the grid and start to just build in one direction, kind of weird.

I had the same problem as Einlanzerous. I also had a problem where, after one of my guard units died, pressing the Tab key would switch between only the dead unit (which was apparently in one corner of the map now, albeit dead and uncontrollable and still in the fog of war) and my Sovereign, despite the fact that I had several cities and other units.
